Ingrid Uys

Biography

Ingrid Uys, born 1985, as the oldest sibling of three, in a close knit Afrikaans family, she enjoyed growing up in various small towns and close to nature in mostly the Freestate and Mpumalanga provinces, South Africa. Her experiences and changing surroundings allowed her to explore the world around her and nurture a curious creativity. Ingrid spent many hours visually documenting her world, and from a very young age she frequently escaped to this world of painting and drawing, developing her skills to translate her thoughts into visual interpretations.

After completing her BA Degree in Fine Arts at the University of Pretoria in 2007, Ingrid started to build her career as a full time artist, residing in Johannesburg. Specializing in oil painting, she explored and refined her themes and subject matter, always drawing from her own life and surroundings as inspiration.

Her theme of Fragile Time, Impermanence and Fleeting Moments was introduced with her first solo exhibition, represented by Halifax Art in Johannesburg. This recurring theme was inspired by the birth of Ingrid’s first daughter in 2014, and has since developed and grew into an even deeper and more personal concept.

Ingrid is currently living and working in Johannesburg with her husband and three young children.
