Nico Londos van Rensburg


Nico Londos van Rensburg was born in Ladybrand, Eastern Free State in 1935. He currently lives and works from his studio in Parys. He obtained a National Art Teacher’s Diploma and a National Higher Diploma in Fine Arts from the Faculty of Art & Design, Technikon, Witwatersrand. In 1965 he became lecturer at the JHB College of Art. Soon he was promoted to senior lecturer and later Head of the Fine Arts Department, in 1983 Nico was appointed Director 0f the School of Art and Design, Technikon Witwatersrand

Nico served as art critic for the SABC, major newspapers and cultural magazines. He also served on the board of the Transvaal Regional Council for Cultural Affairs and of the Art Committee of the FAK and acted as art consultant for Senbank and Gencor.

Pres. Thabo Mbeki invited Nico and other artists to visualize his African Renaissance which was launched at the State Theatre, Pretoria in 1999. His work is contained in prominent art collections such as the Art Museums of Johannesburg, Sandton, Pretoria, Bloemfontein, Pietersburg and Lichtenburg. Wits, RAU, PUCHO, Stellenbosch University, SABC, FAK, SASOL, Mosgas, TELKOM, ABSA and Plascon own a selection of his artworks.

Nico is one of South Africa`s most important and prolific painters, and in the near future we will see a lot more of his work on
