Tracy Witelson is a specialist printmaker who creates single, variable prints through a variety of printmaking techniques on paper and clay. “Forest Waiting” is an intriguing dry-point etching on paper constructed from a range of exquisite marking techniques, lending depth and motion to the leafless trees and surrounding atmosphere. Clumps of agitated lines protrude from the naked trunks with branches extending beyond the natural, like a barrier to mobility and freedom. Bright red colour is reserved for the Tin Man and his oil can, adding light and parody. Tellingly, the Tin Woodman and his life-giving oil can have been separated providing a cliffhanger-like tension to the work.
