Loud and proud, her focus is outward, the hair proudly black and the expression nonchalant. In “Equality”, Ludumo Maqabuka created a frenetic, gritty background from which he has stencil-cut the portrait of a fashionable lady. This backdrop resembles many of the urban walls against which she may have been leaning whilst waiting in line for a taxi or walking passed on the downtown streets of Johannesburg. Violence against women is epidemic yet women are progressively taking their place in society and becoming a force to be reckoned with.
