Japanese Paper Collage

Unlike the other work on the exhibition, this piece is made from Japanese paper rather than canvas.  The artist explains that she sees this as “a work made in sheer joy.”  It evokes qualities of a book, but the content is hidden as the pages cannot be turned, thus, it is both public and private.  The work creates another set of contradictions through its physical qualities as the fragile torn pages contrast with the strong marks and colours painted on to them.
