The title of this work is linked to the artist’s experience of the inner-city when she had a studio there. Outside of her window was a business called ‘Cash for Scrap’. “… the connection l saw in the street below was how the people were holding their lives together collecting the rubbish to earn a living …. I rubbish my art…. Then put the pieces back together to make beautiful art to earn a living.” The work evokes a sense of a busy city, formed by cut-up canvas strips which are collaged together to form horizontal lines. These lines are predominantly black and white but there is a small area that creates a focal point made up of triangular shapes which include different shades of pink. The dominance of black and white is broken by the use of red and gold splatters of colour which evoke a sense of graffiti. This work is a visual representation of the sounds and energy of a city.
