During the period of Covid 19, Ntshabele`s works, became a reminder to focus on positive thoughts and feelings despite the complications. The “Moments in Time” series dawns a new direction in the works of Andrew Ntshabele, as he evolves post Covid 19, as a central theme.
In “Moments in Time 3” and “Moments in Time 4”, there is a continuation of the integration of vintage documents. Although intuitively collaged together, they form a collective story of the past. A combination of old handwritten recipes, letters, and postcards merge with stories of a bygone era in South Africa of the early 1900s. Amongst other vintage documents, which will inspire debate and memory, we find Mrs. Conroy`s Christmas Pudding recipe, another handwritten recipe for Turkish delight, and a document entitled Turmoil and Change, which gives insight into South Africa politically in the early 1900s. The curious combination of eclectic historical documents defines a past South Africa. Ntshabele has painted young boys cycling in bright colors over these documents, suggestive of the current vibrancy of African culture and life, which supersedes the tapestry of a bygone era.
