Artist, curator and senior lecturer in sculpture at The University of Johannesburg (UJ) explores characteristics of sacred geometry found in the world around us through his artworks. Few things ascribe better to the perfect pattern of proportion than the human body. In his recent Limited Edition Digital Photographic studies “Sacred geometry and the human body 1, 2 and 3”, Gordon combines the inimitable qualities of geometry with the human figure in three different poses. The result is an etherial object of beauty, a perfect blend of spiritual, physical and geometrical. Each of the small edition of 15 prints will be created as a Dismount Digital Print. What is that, you may well ask!
After the final image is secured onto archival paper, the print is coated with vinyl, a sheet of perspex and finally a backed by sheet of aluminium. The completed work is sandwiched together and heat sealed as it passes through a press. The result is a single fused image where the individual materials can not be extracted from one another.
Gordon Froud has been actively involved in the South African and international art world as an artist, educator, curator, and gallerist for more than 30 years. He has shown on hundreds of solo and group shows. Froud graduated with a BA (FA) Hons from the University of Witwatersrand and a master’s degree from the University of Johannesburg where he runs the Sculpture department as a senior lecturer.
