Artist, curator and senior lecturer in sculpture at The University of Johannesburg (UJ) explores characteristics of sacred geometry found in the world around us through his artworks. Froud investigates limitless unfolding of a single geometric shape or pattern to create profoundly complex structures through simple combinations and repetition. Although sacred geometry is ascribed to by most major religions, Froud’s approach is one of objective interest without subscribing to any particular system.  A wide variety of functional items, such as coat hangers are reassembled into sculptures of masterful intrigue, creating visually pleasing objects that also donate social and  environmental commentary.

Gordon Froud has been actively involved in the South African and international art world as an artist, educator, curator, and gallerist for more than 30 years. He has shown on hundreds of solo and group shows. Froud graduated with a BA (FA) Hons from the University of Witwatersrand and a master’s degree from the University of Johannesburg where he runs the Sculpture department as a senior lecturer.
