She

Maqabuka’s artwork “She”, originally created in mixed media on brown paper is thought provoking with its visual interpretation on gender based violence and the fortitude of women in general.  The use of soft pastel colours as a metaphor of intrinsic femininity is abruptly contrasted by the charcoal torso of a female freedom fighter. Candy coloured graffiti dovetails the rural element evidenced by the traditional clothing of the lady and city street.
