This piece is made from cutting up old artworks. The process of cutting was a means of finding closure after the loss of the artist’s son. She was unable to make anything due to the pain she was in and so chose to work in this obsessive way, making smaller and smaller squares of canvas as well as cut-up matchboxes. The cut-up sections were then reconstructed and worked over with inks and ballpoint pens. Although the process for this piece was destructive, the final result has a sense of calmness and order. Due to the repetitive placement of the small squares, it has an architectural feel, evoking a sense of looking down at excavated buildings.
