The great Umfolozi River flows through King Shaka’s Royal hunting grounds in Zululand in KwaZulu Natal. Twenty years of experience as an artist, enables Jane Digby to draw from memory and her deep-seated relationship with the location. Photographic reference material taken on a five day hike with friends has been used as reference to portray the essence of the moment. Jane activates her canvas with several intuitive marks using a variety of mark making tools and artist inks. She proceeds to recreate the memory, using large brushes, rollers and a variety of marking tools creating fast and furiously until the painting dictates that it is complete.
“Reach down into the riverbed of soul, find the pulse of who you are. The world needs you.” Jane Digby
