In “There is room for Hope 2” Andrew creates an intriguing collage of vintage maps which were once used by sailors to navigate their ships through unknown territory. This collage forms the backdrop for a young girl who appears ready to leap into the landscape, towards her future. In this work Andrew Ntshabele weaves a new narrative highlighting how outdated navigation systems of the past have given way to new life represented by the girl in the present day. This perspective is achingly apparent today as we consider our past lives before the pandemic and our new lives that the pandemic has hastened into being.
