Mark O’Donovan explains the artwork: “This painting is the album cover for a project by a non governmental organisation called “Sustainable Livelihoods”, entitled “the State of the Nation”. Project participants toured the country digging up unknown musical talent and eventually produced an album reflecting the state of the nation: https://web.facebook.com/5tateofthenat1on/.

The “State of the Nation” is a yearly address made by the president of the country in which the same old rhetoric is spewed out year after year with very little change evident in the lives of people. Young musicians give a more accurate take in a kaleidoscope of reflections on the state of the nation.”
