To Uys, hummingbirds, when in flight, briefly create an illusion often hoped for - the stillness of temporality and at times the evasion of nostalgia.
Ingrid Uys, born 1985, is the oldest sibling of three in a close knit Afrikaans family. Uys enjoyed growing up in various small towns and close to nature in the provinces of the Free State and Mpumalanga, South Africa. Her experiences and changing surroundings allowed her to explore the world around her and nurture a curious creativity. Ingrid spent many hours visually documenting her world, and from a very young age she frequently escaped to this world of painting and drawing. Specialising in oil painting, she explored and refined her themes and subject matter, always drawing from her own life and surroundings as inspiration. Ingrid is currently living and working in Johannesburg with her husband and three young children.
