Karin Basel focuses on multiple existential questions within the contexts of ontology and phenomenology
Born in 1968, Karin Basel is an artist and lecturer currently residing in Johannesburg. Basel is currently teaching theory and history for the Visual Art and Design Theory at the University of Johannesburg (UJ). Basel runs coaching sessions for aspiring artists.  Basel enjoys working with paper in both a reductive and constructive way and her artistic practice includes drawing, painting, cutting, tearing, collaging, and sewing on paper. Additionally, she is interested in making books and boxes. Basel’s art education was initially focused on painting and drawing but she is currently working with assemblage and artists books.
